It is alleged that Brophey had been much too friendly with Quigley's wife and that the two eloped several months ago. Mrs. Quigley afterward returned home and became reconciled to her husband. Brophey returned recently, although warned to stay away. Quigley saw him one day and at once opened fire. Mrs. Quigley witnessed the shooting and ran screaming down the street. Brophey was 33 years of age and had a wife and two children.
