Galveston [Texas] Daily News July 28, 1875
..... accident occurred six miles SE of Shelbyville, Ill, Jul 21. Johnathan 
Compton, ... fell in front of his mower and had his head severed from the body 
He leaves a wife and a large family to mourn his untimely death....

Additional Comments:
According to some sources he is buried in Gallagher Cemetery in Shelby County, 
Illinois with his wife and several children.
