She was born to Pleasant and Nancy Sears in Fayette county, Ohio, July 6, 1834, and therefore was 86 years, 6 months, 6 days old when death relieved her after a long illness. She was united in marriage to Anderson Ferguson in 1842. To this union were born six boys and five girls. Six of these preceded her and five are still living. The family, consisting of husband, wife and three little children, moved from Ohio to Shelby county in 1857. It being a new country she endured great hardships, toiling early and late to rear her large family. She was a great lover of nature and in early life spent many happy hours walking in the forest or by the streams, enjoying their beauty. Besides her children she leaves one brother, I.E. Sears, of Jamestown, Ohio, and one sister, Mrs. Lydia Jacks, also of Ohio, 29 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. She became a member of the Methodist church in early life but in later years transferred her membership to the Separate Baptist church at Hopewell and was faithful to the Master and his kingdom until death. Funeral and burial services were conducted at Ash Grove church Friday morning by the Rev. Murray Stone of Charleston, a former pastor. Grandsons served as pallbearers and granddaughters carried the many beautiful floral offerings. Among those from a distance attending the services were A.A. Ferguson and daughter Louise of Bellefontaine, OH, C.H. Ferguson of Milwaukee, WI, F.L. Bennett of St. Louis, Mrs. Carl Quigley or Orland, Eber Ferguson of Browntown, Harlow Ferguson of Neoga, and George Swiney and wife of Findlay.
