Obituary of Moses Reed, Shelbyville Township, Shelby County, Illinois Source Unknown Moses Reed - Died, at his old home on the head of Jordon, Uncle Moses Reed, Sr., on the 7th inst., in the 78th year of his age from the cause of chronic spinal infection. His health had been failing for some time prior to his death. He was a Tennesseean by birth, born in 1806. He moved to this county in its primitive days and has been one of its pioneer residents for nearly half a century. Thus has passed away one of the oldest land marks, and like a shock of corn was gathered unto his fathers in due season. He leaves the partner of his joys and sorrows to survive him. They traveled this vale together as husband and wife for 59 years. Many children were born unto them, some of whom have also passed away. He leaves a generation of kindred, grand and great grand children who survive and mourn his loss. Mr. Reed was a man that was a kind disposition and hospitable nature, as scores can testify. In his death the friends and neighbors suffer a great loss, and let us hope he gained that reward that a long life of usefulness should entitle him to. His funeral was preached at Oak Grove chapel by Rev. J.W. Foose, assisted by Rev. Hord, on Sunday morning, 9th inst., in the presence of a large concourse of people. Text, Genesis 25:8. All that was mortal of this Father in Israel was laid away in the Grove cemetery, to await the coming of the resurrection morn, when the spirits of just men will be made perfect.
