Braving the awful storm that raged all day Friday, many attended the last sad rites in memory of Mrs. Amanda Wheat, at Union church at 11 o’clock Friday morning. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jasper L. Douthit. She united with the Methodist church about 15 years ago and lived a consistent and faithful member till released from earthly life. The deceased was a daughter of Felix and Millie Green and was born in Shelby County, Illinois, February 16, 1827, being at the time of her death nearly 82 years old. She was united in marriage to Levi Wheat about 62 years ago. Her husband died about 40 years ago. To them were born ten children, 5 boys and 5 girls all who survive, namely: Allen Wheat of Missouri, John Wheat of Decatur, Ill., William Henry of Clarksburg, Levi who resided with his mother at home; Mrs. Nancy Shuff of Clarksburg, Mrs. Cassie Allen of Hominy, Okla. and Mrs. Millie Patrick and Mrs. Anna Crawford of Decatur, and Mrs. Laurel Williams of near Clarksburg. Besides her sons and daughters she leaves four brothers, 35 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. “A precious one from us has gone; A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home; Which can never be filled.
