To all whom it may concern

Know Ye, That  Robert A. Howard, private   of Captian William S. Swan of
company 
(  6  )    57th  regiment of Infantry Illinois Vollunteers who was enrolled on
the twenty-third day of December one thousand eight hundred and sixty-one to
serve three years or during the war, is hearby Discharged from the service of
the United States this forth day of January, 1865, at Springfield, Illinois by
reason of expiration of term of service (No objection to his being re=enlisted
is known to exist.*)
     Said Robt. A. Howard was born in Winville(not sure of spelling) in the
state of Ohio, is 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion,
blue eyes    ?   hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a Farmer.
     Given at Springfield, Ill this forth day of January 1865.
