History of Illinois Alton Battalion Illinois Alton Battalion Regiment History Adjutant General's Report History of this Battery is not found in the Report of the Adjutant General of Illinois. Other sources tell us that this unit was originally the 144th Infantry Regiment and afterward the Alton Battalion Infantry, 100 days (Companies A and B). It was composed of the companies of Captain John Curtis and Simon J.Stookey, was mustered into the United States service at Camp Butler June 21, 1864. Departed for the field June 25, 1864.
