Civil War Service Report - Menard and Tazwell Counties, Illinois Date: Monday, April 06, 1998 12:38 AM The following is a report of my great-uncle's service in the Civil War: PEMBERTON, WILLIAM J. Private, Co.A Eighty Fifth Infantry, Illinois Volunteers - a Farmer, Single Man - age 21 - Born 5 April 1840 in Menard Co., Illinois Enrolled 10 August 1862 at Manito, IL Mustered into Service 27 August 1862 for a Term of 3 years by Capt. Wainwright at Springfield, IL. At time of enrollment he was a resident of Pekin, Tazewell Co., Illinois. Discharged for disability 24 Jan 1863 at Bowling Green, Kentucky. He applied for an Invalid Pension due to disabilies suffered as result of injuries in the war. (Pension #720959).
