UNITED STATES MILITARY RECORD COMPANY L, 7TH ILL. CAVALRY ORGANIZATION The Company was organized at Bushnell, Ill., by Capt. George M. Scott, and mustered into the U.S. service Sept. 3, 1861. Veteranized Feb. 9, 1864. Mustered out at Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 4, 1865. HISTORY OF THE COMPANY This Company was organized at Bushnell, McDonough County, Ill., in August 1861, and accepted into the United States service in the 7th Reg't Illinois Cavalry, Sept. 3, 1861. It remained at Camp Butler, Ill. Until Dec. 1861; moved to Cairo, Ill., thence to Bird's Point, Mo.; remained there until March 5, 1862, participated in the capture of New Madrid and Island No. 10; took part in the advance on a capture of Corinth and pursuit of the rebel army from that place; engaged in guarding the Memphis and Charleston Railroad in Northern Alabama until Sept. 9, 1862. After this the Company participated in the following engagements, viz: Iuka, Miss., Sept. 13, 1862; Burnsville, Miss., Sept. 15, 1862; Corinth, Oct. 3d and 4th, 1862; Hudson's Lane, Miss., November, 1862; Oxford, Miss., Dec. 1, 1862; Yancona Creek, Miss., Dec. 3, 1862; Water Valley, Miss., Dec. 4, 1862; Coffeeville, Miss., Dec. 5, 1862; Covington, Tenn., March 9, 1863; Union Church, Miss., April, 1863; Plain's Store, La., May 25, 1863; Clinton, La., July 3, 1863; Quinn's Mills, Miss., Aug. 1, 1863; Salem, Miss., Oct. 9, 1863; Collierville, Tenn., Oct. 11, 1863; Byhalia, Miss., Oct. 12, 1863; Wyatt's Ford, Miss., Oct.13, 1863; Collierville, Tenn. Carmel, Tenn., Nov. 29, 1864; Franklin, Tenn., Nov. 30, 1864; Nashville, Tenn., Dec. 15th and 16th, 1864; Harpeth Creek, Tenn., Dec. 17, 1864; Rutherford Creek, Tenn., Dec. 19, 1864; Anthony Hill, Tenn., Dec. 25, 1864 Besides a number of long and wearisome marches, among which is the Grierson's Raid, which was made in April, 1863, from LaGrange, Tenn. To Baton Rouge, La. In sixteen days, a distance of more than 800 miles; after which the Company participated in the seige and capture of Port Hudson.
