WILLIAM ALLEN of Illinois William Allen applied for revolutionary pension while living in Illinois, September 18, 1832. He was born in Pennsylvania and while still very young moved from Pennsylvania to Orange County, N. C., where he was living when he volunteered for service in September, 1781. He served under Lieutenant John Campbell and Colonel Archibald Lytle. He was taken prisoner at Hillsboro, N. C., and was kept on board a British prison ship until exchanged, August 11, 1782, after which he returned to his home in Orange County, N. C.
