Lucille GLAZE THE JUNE 1930 GRADUATING CLASS HISTORY As the June 1930 Eighth Grade class is the largest in the city, I am sure you will be interested to know how it came to have seventy-seven members. Eight years ago, a group of 13 tiny children appeared in Miss SLASON's room on the first day of school. In the group were: Emilio VALDES, Joe CUETO, Gertrude ELLIS, Richard RODENBERGER, Ethel STEINER, Henry RODRIGUEZ, Edria Mae BUTRON. Malcolm RANDALL, Dollie Mae CAUDLE, Louis MENDENEZ, Edward PEREZ, Lewis BOUGHTON and Albert JOHNSTON, who were very proud to be in grade 1-1. In 1-2, the class was very much pleased to have Joe CULLEN join them, coming from Park School. In 2-2 Florence HUGHES came into the class from the Jefferson School. In 3-1 a group of children were sent here from the Rosemont Annexes. They were: Dorothy STEPHENS, Cecelia MOLLACK, Vivian RADER, Mary HALCEK, and Arline ROBERT. In the same grade Lorene CLARE entered our cloass from the Cannady School and Neal SCHNEIDER from the Park School. Richard McCLELLAND like our lass so much that he stayed in 3-2 to be with us, and Betty Lee BURKHART came from Poplar Bluff. Harold MCCANN joined our class in 4-1 by a double promotion from 3-1. In the same grade Doris YORK joined us from the Park Schook; Marian EKSTEDT from the Monroe School, Earl SCOTT from the Longfellow School and Helen Benak from the Emerson School. In 4-2, no one came into the class, but in 5-1 several came which made up for the loss. They were John HELLER from Jefferson School, Hattie MALONE from the Longfellow School, Dellazoe WATTS came all the way from Knoxville,TN just to join our class. Artel KIRBY, Bonnie ANDERSON and Leonard MILLER came from the Cannady School and Robert WAHRENBURG from the Monroe School. In 6-1 Dorothy STEPHENS, Cecelia MOLLACK, Arline ROBERTS, Helen BENAK, Bonnie ANDERSON, John HELLER and Artel KIRBY lived in the district that had to go to the Woodrow Wilson, so they left. But Marguerite WOODAL entered from the Washington School, Ralph LARSON from the Longfellow School and Fern KENNETT came from the Edgemont School, but left in the middle of the term for the Woodrow Wilson School. In 6-2, a big surprise came our way. All the boys and girls that left for the Woodrow Wilson in 6-1 came back and in addition to that Ivadell STUMP came from St. Louis, Gina TODAROFF and Eanca MARINOFF came from the Irving School and Virginia HARNESS waited for us in this grade. In 7-1, the class was still growing. This time were added: Arthur TECKENBRACK from Woodrow Wilson, Bruce QUAYLE from Flora, IL, Virginia KORTKAMP from Bushnell, IL, Frank HRASKY from Spring Lake School, LaVerne EBERT from the Longfellow School and Bill HANCOCK and Helen TOTTLEBEN decided to wait for us. In 7-2 the class grew still larger. This term there were: Ida MUELLER from St. Louis, Mildred INNIS from Frankfort, IN, and Bob SHRIVER, Charle HATCHER, Oscar ARNETT and Bob HUBERT wanted to become members of the largest Eighth Grade class so stayed back to become members of the June 1930 class. IN September 1929, the class grew by jumps. Five girls, Dorothy SHAW, Lucille GLAZE, Florence SHMOOKLER, Joyce PLACEK and Jeanette WILD had done such splended work in 7-1 and had taken the 7-2 work at summer school that they became members of the 8-1 class. In addition to the five girls, Helen PAYNE came from the Washington School, and Vlodi STEPHAN from the Cannady School In 8-2 Carl LEBO entered our class from the Manners School and Charles HEELY from St. Libory. This concludes the history of the June, 1930 graduating class of the Hawthorne School.
