Obituary of Frank WALTA/VALTA, St Clair County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Karen Souhrada [Obit Notice from unnamed source; dated December 1957] [FRANZ] "FRANK" WALTA, 88, Retired Miner, dies Frank Walta, 88 year old retired coal miner and former resident of 1511 N. Illinois Street, Swansea, died at 8:15 o'clock this morning at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, 4400 N. Belt West, where he had been a resident for the past five months. Death followed an extended illness. Born in Czechoslovakia on August 7, 1869, he was the son of the late VACLAV and Anne [AKA: MARIE] WALTA, and married KATHERINE DITTRT in Czechoslovakia. His wife died in 1922. Surviving are five children, FRED WALTA, 2209 Caseyville Avenue; Mrs. BESSIE TUMA and JOSEPH WALTA, St. Louis; TONY WALTA, 923 West Main Street and CHARLES WALTA, residing in Wyoming; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, FRANK, who died last October 2, JOHN and DAN, a daughter, MARY, and four sisters. Mr. Walta was a member of the local Lodge 107, Czechoslovakian Society of America and Belleville's Local No. 4, Progressive Mine Workers of America. --- [Funeral Arrangements on page 11:] The funeral of Frank Walta (VALTA), 88 year old retired coal miner who died Saturday morning at Rest Haven Nursing Home, will be held at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon from Pete Gaerdner Funeral Home to Walnut Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. B. J.
