Obituary of John WALTA/VALTA, St Clair County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Karen Souhrada ------------------------------------------------------------- [ Unnamed Newspaper clipping in the possession of relative Anna Rose Walta: dating possibly to the summer or fall of 1955; location appears to be in California] [John WALTA/VALTA is the son of Frank & Katherine WALTA/VALTA of Belleville, Illinois; grandson of Vaclav & Marie VALTA/WALTA of Belleville, IL] "STRUCK BY LOG, JOHN WALTA/[VALTA] DIES John WALTA, 45, a logger from the Taylorville area of Grass Valley, was almost instantly killed this morning at 7:30 when a moving log bounced off another and struck him on the head, fracturing his skull. The victim was working clearing a side road for logs for E. G. Sample, a logging contractor on the Chalk Bluff road about 2 miles east of Nevada City, Highway 20, when the accident occurred. Other loggers in the area told Deputy Coroner Charles Gordon, who had taken the ambulance to the scene, that he had set a choker on a log and then without the knowledge of the others, had moved into the area where the fallen trees were being shifted.
