Lutz, 66, well known retired contractor, businessman and sportsman, of 103 South Penn- sylvania avenue, died shortly after 1 o'clock this morning at his sum- mer lodge at Steeleville, Mo., fol- lowing an extended illness of 22 years. Mr. Lutz was a member of the building firm Bergman and Lutz Contractors here for many years. He retired in 1928 because of fail- ing health. Her served on the board of directors of the Belleville Sav- ings Bank for more than 20 years. Reared in Belleville, he attended the Lutheran school, and was a member of the Lutheran church. He was active in the Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, be- fore his ill health. He was widely known for his big game hunting expeditions. In recent years, he had been spending considerable time at his spacious summer lodge in Missouri, which was frequently visited by many of his friends from Belleville. Born in Pinckneyville, April 1, 1884, he was the son of the late Henry and Mary Kramp Lutz. His wife, the former Susan Sergent, whom he married in Belleville in 1921, survives. Surviving besides his wife are four brothers, Emil Lutz, 507 North Third street; Henry Lutz, O'Fallon; Edwin Lutz, Wood River, and Walter Lutz of Quincy. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Gund- (?) lach and company funeral home to Valhalla Burial Park, with Rev. C. Thomas Spitz, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church, officiating. Friends may call after 4 o'clock this afternoon.
