I have on file a letter from the Belleville News Democrat (which the Advocate became a part of in later years) giving me permission to post any item that would be of help to genealogists. Unless stated to be a different state, all references to cities, villages etc. are in Illinois. I have been reading the Advocate on microfilm through inter library loan for several years, having started with 1850. The name of the paper and the paper date are shown at the end of each article. Transcribed and submitted by Nancy Giles Mrs. Lillie Jones Buried At Carlyle Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie M. Jones, 75, of Carlyle, were held this morning from the Carlyle Methodist church, with burial in the McKendree Chapel cemetery, west of Keyesport, Rev. Paul Ott, officiating. Mrs. Jones died Friday (3 Nov) morning at the family home of a heart condition. She had been ill several years. Born north of Carlyle in Irishtown, July 21, 1875, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Sallie Ogle Eshelman, a pioneer family in Clinton county. Her husband, Samuel K. Jones, whom she married April 10, 1898 at Carlyle, survives. After their marriage, they resided on several farms, until going to Florida where they stayed several years. They returned to Carlyle in 1926 after having resided in Alton for a short time. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Methodist church, and the Fern Hill Camp, Royal Neighbors of America. Survivors include the husband, a foster daughter, Mrs. Harry McClard, St. Andrews, Fla.; five grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. W. J. Franklin, Madison; Mrs. Emma Thalis, East St. Louis, and Mrs. A. L. Baum, Carlyle. A sister, Mrs. R. S. Norman died in 1941.
