Pioneer Illinoisan is Dead

Man Who Lived Here Since State Was Admitted in 1818 Expires

Samuel G. Smith, who came to Illinois eighty-nine years ago, died at his home, 
Rock Springs farm, St. Clair county. He was born in Wilmington, Del., in 1809. 
Mr. Smith was one of the members of the whig party, and voted for Henry Clay.
