Nineteenth Annual Report of the Illinois Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1900
March 28, 1900, Gus Smith, driver, aged 31 years, married, employed in the Murren 
Coal and Ice Co.’s mine, Belleville, was seriously injured internally by being 
caught between moving loaded cars in the mine. He died two days after the 
accident, leaving a widow and three children.
