M. Bailey will be held Saturday at 2:30 from the First Baptist Church of this city, of which church the Judge was a member over forty years, and was superintendent of the Sunday school for thirty years. In the early days of the church the membership was small and the male members did not number over a half a dozen. The gentlemen used to take turns acting as janitor, and one cold winter morning, while Judge Bailey was acting as janitor, the house of worship caught fire and burned down soon after he had lighted the fire in the stove. His funeral sermon will be preached by his old college mate and life-long friend, Dr. Galusha Anderson, of the University of Chicago, and the members of the Freeport commandery, Knights Templar, will act as an escort from the church to the cemetery and will have charge of the services at the grave. It is expected that the judges of the State Supreme Court will be present and act as honorary pallbearers. Mrs. Bailey has received telegrams of condolence from many prominent men in all parts of the State, including members of the Supreme Court, William R. Harper, president of the University of Chicago; Judge J. H. Cartwright, of Oregon, now serving on the appellate bench, and Judge J. D. Crabtree, of Dixon, one of the judges of this judicial circuit, are most prominently talked of here as Judge Bailey's successor.
