Obituary of Nancy Van Matre, Stephenson County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Don Hopke The following appeared in the Freeport Daily Standard, April 14, 1913, Monday..page 5...col 5: Old Settler Dies At Orangeville Mrs. Nancy Van Matre, 81, passes away Sunday evening Mrs. Nancy Van Matre, wife of J. J. Van Matre, passed away at her home at Orangeville at 8 o'clock last evening, after an illness of three weeks. Mrs. Van Matre was one of the oldest residents of the county and had resided in the vicinity of Orangeville for many years.  She was 81 years old and was well known throughout the county.  Her maiden name was Nancy Humphreys.  She is survived by her husband and the following children:  Mrs. R. L. Hopke of Orangeville; Miss Christie Van Matre, at home; James Van Matre, of Winslow; H. J. Van Matre, of Delavan, WI; and William Van Matre, of  Orangeville.
