Youmans died while being taken to St. Anthony's hospital, Rockford according to reports from the office of the Winnebago county sheriff. The mishap took place about 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of routes 51 and 73 in Winnebago county. Reports of the accident indicated that Youmans, Steve Romano, and Carl Erickson, Rockford were riding their respective motorcycles along the highway when in some manner the front wheel of the Youmans machine hooked the rear wheel of the Romano machine. This caused the Youmans wheel to skid from the highway throwing the rider against a highway sign and then hurling him down into a ditch with his machine. The other riders were not injured. George Johns, near whose farm the accident took place, loaded Youmans into an automobile and rushed him to the hospital. He was alive when picked up but died before arriving at the hospital. ALthough Youmans' home was in Freeport he had been living at the Rosaland hotel Rockford, for the past few weeks the sheriff at Rockford reported. Native of Wisconsin Mr. Youmans was born at Platteville, Wis., Feb. 2, 1914, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Youmans. He was united in marriage to Miss Lorraine Matherson, Freeport June 1, 1933.
