obit: BISMARCK BUSINESS LEADER IS DEAD E. D. BROWN A life resident of Newell Township and in business in Bismarck for more than 40 years, E. D. Brown, 69 died at 1 p.m. Saturday , Aug. 23, 1941, in Illinois Central hospital at Chicago where he had been a patient for about a month. Mr. Brown and his brother, E. E. Brown owned the Brown Brothers Hardware Store in Bismarck and this partnership had lasted since 1898 when they established a lumber yard, later changing to the hardware and implement business. STARTED AS CARPENTER E. D. Brown was born near Myersville, west of Bismarck, Jan. 17, 1872, son of J. C. and Anna Finks Brown. He remained at home until he had reached his majority, then started in life on his own account working at the carpenters trade. He followed the contracting business later in life along with the hardware and implement business. He was married , Nov. 14, 1894 to Miss Ida Juvinall, who together with three daughter, survives. The later are Mrs. Lee R. Campbell, Urbana, Mrs. F. A. Graves , Seneca, Illinois and Mrs. Raymond Laury, Chicago, Ten grandchildren also survive and a half brother , Frank Brown lives near Bismarck. STOCKHOLDER IN BANK Mr. Brown was a member of the Methodist Church and for many years was a stockholder in the Farmers & Merchants Bank in Bismarck. The body was brought down from Chicago late Saturday and is at Lanham Funeral Home in Henning. Funeral plans were incomplete Saturday night.
