He and his partner had some timbers under the rock which they thought was sufficient to hold it, but they were mistaken, for the great weight of the rock discharged the timbers, letting the rock fall, catching deceased in such a manner as to cause his death. He was married and had a family in Russia; he boarded in Westville. The place had been marked by the mine examiner for more timbers, but deceased and his partner neglected to put them up the first thing, as they should have done in order to protect themselves from danger.
