He had just fired a shot and had returned to the face of the working place to set up some timbers which the shot had knocked out, and was engaged in that work when a large piece of soapstone fell on him, killing him instantly. He left a wife and three children dependent. Had deceased waited for the smoke to clear away he could, in all probability, have seen the danger and avoided it.
