OBIT: PNEUMONIA TAKES OLDEST MALE RESIDENT Phillip Y. Peterson , 92, died at 9:10 a.m. Sunday December 4, 1938 at Lake View Hospital Danville where he was a patient one week ill with pneumonia. Mr. Peterson was born in Salem county, New Jersey, November 11, 1847 son of Samuel and Jane Paden Peterson. When he was 7 years old the family moved to Indiana and a year later to Peoria. Mr. Peterson well remembered the family passing through the then small village of Danville enroute to Peoria. He was married to Allie Chaney February 23, 1872 who died in 1894. Four children were born to this union. He later married Mrs. Addie Shannon who also preceded him in death. Mr. Peterson came to Vermilion County in March 1882 and built a home east of town. He retired from farming in 1899 and moved into Rossville where he was active in church and civic affairs. He was a member of the Christian Church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Kate Hundley and Mrs. Della Bowman who lived with him, Mrs. Bessie Youngblood, Rossville and Mrs. Myrtle Layton, Gary Ind. 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Freese Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul D. Magnuson , pastor of the Christian church officiating. Six Grandsons were pallbearers, and six grand-daughters flower bearers.
