FREAR CEMETERY / GILKINSON FARM / KEEPAS FARM --------------------------------------------- Known as the Gilkinson farm, later owned by Joe Keepas, there are 4 or 5 graves, two of these are children of Jerry Gallard. HAM FARM / BRINES FARM * DESTROYED * ---------------------- It was reported that 4 or 5 graves were on old Ham farm, later owned by Morris Brines, now under cultivation. LAMBERT CEMETERY / LOVELLETTE FARM ---------------------------------- Cemetery on the old John Tougas Lovellette farm, No information. LANDES CEMETERY / LANDIS FARM * DESTROYED * ----------------------------- A small cemetery on the old Landis farm now rented and under cultivation. Mc CABE FARM / JOHN EWALD FARM * DESTROYED * ------------------------------ Cemetery on the old McCabe farm, later owned by John J. Ewald, this is now under cultivation. JOSEPH BURWAY AND JOSEPH PICHIRANT ---------------------------------- They were some of the early French settlers. In 1815, they were both killed by the Indians in the Coffee Bottoms. They had gone in search of their horses, and while tramping through the bottoms, were surprised by the red skins and massacred. Only one, Burway, carried a rifle. Pichirant was married. Three other pioneers were in the bottoms at the time and heard the shots from Burway's rifle, followed by a volley of several shots. On going to the point where the firing was heard, they found the dead and mutilated bodies. From the evidence on the trail, Burway had fought desperately before he was killed, as several dead Indians were found along the trail. DEGAN FARM / TODD HEIRS * DESTROYED * ----------------------- Cemetery is on the old Degan farm, later owned by the Todd heirs. It was said that 28 - 30 people were buried here. This ground is under cultivation. KENT WRIGHT FARM / WEST CEMETERY ( UNMARKED ) -------------------------------- A cemetery is located on the old Kent Wright farm across the road from the Jacob Fearheiley farm near Maud on the left side of Maud road on a knoll. Four graves are here and of the West family, no markers were ever put here. Small bushes are grown over the graves. DAN WILCOX FARM / BEARD HEIRS ----------------------------- A cemetery of about fifteen to twenty graves are on the Dan Wilcox farm, later owned by the Beard heirs. WOOD CEMETERY / WASHINGTON WOOD FARM ------------------------------------ Not Woods.txt A cemetery is on the Washington Wood farm, located near the Woods families. Buried here are Woods, Potts, and McClures, among others. A distillery and griss mill once was located here and powered by water on Coca Creek. GEORGE WRIGHT FARM ------------------ A small cemetery on the George Wright farm, long abandoned. HARNESS CEMETERY / GEORGE COUCH FARM ( UNMARKED ) ------------------------------------ Cemetery located on old George Couch farm near Orio. Probably eight or ten graves here. The graves were never marked, the only one known to be buried here was Rena Harness and her husband. DARDEEN FARM / SAMMY STILLWELL FARM ----------------------------------- A small cemetery was located on the old Dardeen farm, later owned by Sammy John Stillwell. Very little is known about this cemetery. WILLIAM DEISCHER FARM ( LOST ) --------------------- It was reported that two graves were on the William Deischer farm, but these were not located. WILLIAM DONAHUE FARM / HENRY PFIEFFER FARM * DESTROYED * ------------------------------------------ A single grave is located about the center of the farm of William Donahue. Later known as the Henry Pfieffer farm. SEIGERT FARM ------------ A small cemetery of several graves is located on the Seigert farm, Sugar Orchard. S.S. SEILER FARM / C.M. GRUNDON FARM ------------------------------------ A small cemetery located on the S.S. Seiler farm, later occupied by C.M. Grundon. Maud, il. HENRY SMITH FARM GRAVE ---------------------- On the Henry Smith farm is a single grave, that of a child. H.R. LOVELLETTE FARM -------------------- Buried on the Dr. H.R. Lovellette farm back of the barn, there are two Frenchmen buried here, massacred by the Indians. THOMAS ARMSTRONG FARM --------------------- Located on the Thomas Armstrong farm several years ago stood a Congergational Church and Cemetery. No further information. THOMAS BANKS FARM / REV. MAY'S GRAVE ------------------------------------ On the old Thomas Banks farm now owned by the Thompsons, is buried Rev. May, minister of the Orio Presbyterian Church. He came to Wabash County prior to the coming of Rev. Stephen Bliss. THOMAS BANKS FARM / BANKS-BLISS-CORRIE CEMETERY ----------------------------------------------- On the Thomas Banks farm later owned by James E. Kelsey and John Corrie Sr., settled here about 1816 or 1815, when he came from Scotland. A clump of trees mark the site of the cemetery. Known to be buried here are Thomas Banks, William Corrie and his wife, the infant child of Rev. Stephen Bliss, Agnes Elizabeth Corrie, daughter of Robert Corrie, and others. THOMPSON BLACKFORD FARM / MATTHIAS STERN FARM --------------------------------------------- Cemetery on the old Thompson Blackford farm (near Cowling), later owned by Matthias Stern, some eight graves are here. E.A. BUCHOLZ FARM / KEEN CEMETERY ( LOST ) --------------------------------- On the Dr. E.A. Bucholz farm, there were three or four graves, believed Mr. & Mrs. E.B. Keen are buried here. LEVI THOMPSON FARM / BEN SHUH FARM ( UNMARKED ) ---------------------------------- Located on the old Levi Thompson place, later owned by Ben Shuh, small cemetery now lost. JOHN CORRIE FARM ( UNMARKED ) ---------------- Small cemetery on the John R. Corrie farm it was located in the woods to the east of the house. These graves were never marked. CENTERVILLE CEMETERY -------------------- A cemetery located at the site of old Centerville, the first County seat of Wabash County, states Enoch Greathouse was buried here, age 101 years. Dr SHERREL FARM / CABBAGE CORNERS CEMETERY * DESTROYED * ------------------------------------------ Cemetery located near Cabbage Corners on the farm or orchard of Dr. Sherrel, who had all the markers removed and destroyed. Some 40 or 50 graves were here. Renston Utter is buried here. RHOM RAMBEL FARM / MILL SEAT CEMETERY ------------------------------------- Located on the old Rhom Rambel farm, also known as the Mill Seat, is buried R. Grayson, grandfather of Charles Grayson. This cemetery is near Keensburg, Illinois. RAVENSTEIN FARM / ALONZO COCHRAN FARM * DESTROYED * ------------------------------------- A cemetery of 50 or 60 graves is located on the old Ravenstein farm, later owned by Alonzo Cochran. Situated along the southern railway, one mile west of Maud. This is under cultivation. BENJAMIN REYNOLDS FARM / MARTIN STEPHENS FARM * DESTROYED * --------------------------------------------- On the Benjamin Reynolds farm later owned by Martin Stephens, there are about 12-15 graves, under cultivation. Mr. Raynolds himself is buried here. He served during the War of 1812, from the state of Kentucky. MILBURN FARM / IKE SCHRADER FARM * DESTROYED * -------------------------------- Cemetery on the Milburn farm, later owned by Ike Schrader, some thirty graves were here, lost many years ago. ELLSWORTH SCHRODT FARM * DESTROYED * ---------------------- A small cemetery on the Ellsworth Schrodt farm near Sugar Creek, lost many years ago. NATHANIEL HENDRICK'S GRAVE / JAKE GINTHER FARM / STOLTZ-MARX-METZ-KEIFFER FARMS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Located on the Jake Ginther place also known as the Stoltz, Adam Marx, John Metz, and August Keiffer farm, the grave of Nathaniel Hendricks, veteran of Revolution, and Louis Hoffman, veteran of the Civil War. Information from Earl Deixcher who lived near Stoltz School house. MARTIN FREEMAN'S GRAVE / GRIESMIER FARM / CHARLES NEWKIRK FARM -------------------------------------------------------------- Not freeman.txt On the old Griesmier farm near Lancaster, later owned by Charles Newkirk, is the grave of Martin Freeman. BILL GUISEWITE FARM / BALLARD-PUTNAM CEMETERY --------------------------------------------- Not putnam.txt On the Bill Guisewite farm is buried Jeremiah Ballard, Ross G. Putman of Elderado, Il, who is a great grandson of Jeremiah. Said he came to Wabash County in 1813, lived and died on his farm. Jeremiah Ballard's daughter, Tryphosa married Eben Putman on 28-aug-1817. Jeremiah had a son, Joseph who married Martha Putman, 29-dec-1815. WILLIAM MAHON FARM / WILLIAM LACER FARM --------------------------------------- Cemetery on the William Mahon farm later owned by William Lacer. A Revolutionary War veteran was buried here. Information given by Anna Harman, that a Mr. Schearer, Civil War veteran told her years ago, also Henry Seitz said the veteran was here on a visit and died and was buried in this cemetery some 50 years ago. The marker is still there. F.W. WILCOX FARM * DESTROYED * ---------------- Cemetery on the F.W. Wilcox farm located near Friend Grove schoolhouse. John Stillwell was buried here. His tombstone was removed by members of the Stillwell family and is lost. This ground is under cultivation. C.C. STRASSER FARM * DESTROYED * ------------------ There are about seven graves on the C.C. Strasser farm, no markers are there and it is under cultivation. JAMES STILLWELL FARM / COLLISON HEIRS * DESTROYED * ------------------------------------- There is a small cemetery on the James Stillwell farm, later owned by the Collison heirs. There was about twenty to twenty five graves here, it is now under cultivation. JOHN STILLWELL FARM / FRANK PIETY GRAVE --------------------------------------- A single grave is on the John Stillwell farm, that of Frank Piety, who drowned in the Wabash River and was buried on the bank. MILBURN FARM / LEWIS ARMSTRONG FARM ----------------------------------- A cemetery is reported to be on the Milburn farm later owned by Lewis Armstrong. Two Milburn's are buried there. MILTON CEMETERY --------------- There is one grave between Lancaster and Clark Corner on the north side of the road. A family by the name of Milton is thought to be buried here.
