HISTORY: -------- One acre of the Northeast corner of the east half of the Northwest quarter of Section No. 15, in Township two, south of Range no. 13 West, the said acre to be so laid off as to embrace the church building for the use and benefit of the Catholic Community, together with all and singular the privileges and appurtenances there unto belonging, or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with the privileges and appearances there unto belonging to the said party of the second part and his successors in office forever. The above instrument, dated January 27, 1852, was executed by Julia Williamson in favor Rt. Rev James O. Vandeveede, Catholic Bishop of Chicago. This tract of land was later transferred by Rt. Rev. Anthony O. Regan, successor in office to the Rt. Rev. James O. Vandeveede, Bishop of Alton, when this Diocese was founded. This instrument is dated October 23, 1857 and was filed for record on the 15th day of May 1860, and recorded May 21, 1860, Book D, page 31 and 32, by one Hiram Bell, the Clerk of the County Court of Wabash County. When the Diocese Bellville was separated from the Diocese of Alton, this piece of property was no doubt again transferred to the now Bishop of Bellville, Bishop Janssen.
