Carmel, Wabash County, Illinois Daily Register, Mt. Carmel, Il.--Last Veteran Of Civil War Passes At Keensburg Keenssburg, Dec. 1--In the passing of our neighbor and fellow townsman, A. J. Beard, who died Monday morning the last Civil War veteran in our community has gone to his reward. Uncle Andy, as every one knew him, had just passed his 95th. birthday. He was born in Indiana and came to this state from Perry County, Ind. some 30 years ago. He was a member of Co. A, Indiana Volunteers in the Civil War. Many a time have we thought of getting some of his experiences of war days, but neglected to do so. The funeral was held from the Christian Church, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.E. Moyer. The pallbearers were, H.R. Lovellette, R.C. Watkin, L.S. Grace, J.A. Berninger, J.M. Sharp, F.A. Garrett, C.S. Legier, G.W. Rose. Flower girls, Misses Dorothy and Mildred Timberlake, Lovella Richardson, Lelia Butler, Hazel Wheeler and Iva Fitzgerrel. Interment was in Coffee Cemetery.
