Carmel, Illinois, Friday 16 Mar 1928] Women Victim of Explosion of Kerosene Mrs. Clara Thrall Fatally Burned While Starting Fire. Bone Gap, Ill., March 16. -- (Special). -- Mrs. Clara Thrall daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ankenbrandt of Wabash county was the victim here on Thursday of a serious accident and was fatally burned. Mrs. Thrall has been living here during the winter months so her daughter, Virginia Lloyd, could attend school. While starting the fire in the kitchen stove on Thursday morning about 6:40 o'clock and while pouring kerosene into the stove the can container exploded and in an instant she was in flames. Her cries were heard by Mrs. Carrie Stanhope, a near neighbor, who rushed to her assistance and succeeded in extinguishing the flames. But Mrs. Thrall had been seriously burned. The victim of the blaze was then rushed to the Olney sanitarium in King's ambulance and there she died Thursday afternoon at 4:30. Mrs. Frank Ankenbrandt, her mother, Bernard Ankenbrandt, a brother, and Dr. J. L. McCormack accompanied Mrs. Thrall to Olney. The body of Mrs. Thrall was removed to the home of her parents on Friday morning. Clara A. Thrall was born in Wabash county on February 5, 1890 and died on March 15, 1928, aged 38 years. She was united in marriage here to Lloyd Thrall in August, 1917. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1918. He died during the war at Camp Sunston [sic] Kansas. She leaves to mourn her departure one daughter, Virginia Lloyd, aged 9 years, a father and three sisters, Helen and Blanche and Mrs. Ben Gill, of Browns, four brothers, Bernard of Bone Gap, Lo and Herman of Wabash county and Frank of Fort Wayne and also a host of other relatives and friends. # [Note: Clara's birth date above may be mistaken. The 1920 census of the Frank Ankenbrandt household gives Clara's age as 27, which is more consistent with the marriage of Frank Ankenbrandt and Dora Schneider 28 April 1891 on record in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index. Lloyd Thrall's parents were Lyman Thrall and Magdalene Sloan. Lyman's grandparents Lyman Thrall and Abigail Phelps came to Wabash County from Licking County, Ohio, in the 1830s.] Harold File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/il/wabash/obits/t/thrall3nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/ilfiles/ File size: 2.8 Kb
