Misc Obits for Wabash County Mt. Carmel, Wabash County, Illinois Daily Register, Mt. Carmel, Il.--Last Veteran Of Civil War Passes At Keensburg Keenssburg, Dec. 1--In the passing of our neighbor and fellow townsman, A. J. Beard, who died Monday morning the last Civil War veteran in our community has gone to his reward. Uncle Andy, as every one knew him, had just passed his 95th. birthday. He was born in Indiana and came to this state from Perry County, Ind. some 30 years ago. He was a member of Co. A, Indiana Volunteers in the Civil War. Many a time have we thought of getting some of his experiences of war days, but neglected to do so. The funeral was held from the Christian Church, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.E. Moyer. The pallbearers were, H.R. Lovellette, R.C. Watkin, L.S. Grace, J.A. Berninger, J.M. Sharp, F.A. Garrett, C.S. Legier, G.W. Rose. Flower girls, Misses Dorothy and Mildred Timberlake, Lovella Richardson, Lelia Butler, Hazel Wheeler and Iva Fitzgerrel. Interment was in Coffee Cemetery. Daily Register, Mt. Carmel, Wabash County, Illinois--February 23, 1986 Mary Frances Shoemaker, 78, Mt. Carmel, died Feb. 22, at her home. She was born Jan. 3, 1908 in Wabash County; the daughter of William and Liza Wood Jordon. She was married to Jesse Shoemaker. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mable Lambert, Mt. Carmel; Helen Coker, Hopinsville, Ky.; four sons, Dallas White, Terra Haute, Ind.; Don White, Homestead, Fl.; Tollis White, Rochester, N. Y.; one step-brother, Corneilus Jordan, Spedway, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ernest Jordan and one half-brother, Lyle Wood. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Short Memorial Chapel with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
