Walk along creek about 100 yards. Cemetery is in the corner of land formed by a bend in the creek. The land that the cemetery occupies was deeded to Washington County years ago. In 1989 the surrounding land was being farmed by Everett Huge. Historical Data: Established 1840 Friederich Moritz Conrad Stinde was a lawyer and judge in the Schleswig-Holstein area of Germany (than part of Denmark) who emigrated to the US, along with his family, in 1833. The family settled in St. Louis and Friederich opened a law practice. He was highly educated and spoke seven languages but his English was very poor. This led to limited success in his law practice and so he soon turned to farming to care for his family. He rented a farm in St. Clair County in Illinois near Belleville and farmed there for a few years. In 1840 he purchased land and established the family home in Washington County near Richview. That fall son George died and was buried about 100 yards behind the house and that was the beginning of the Stinde Family Cemetery. The cemetery is very small with only 12 marked graves dating from 1852 to 1923. However family records document the 1840 burial and there is another marker that has only the base remaining. This cemetery also has the distinction of being the final resting place of a Civil War Veteran. STINDE FAMILY CEMETERY Tombstone Inscriptions F.M.C.
