C. Gains The remains of Mrs. Robert C. Gains, who died in the Baptist Hospital, in St. Louis, on Friday May 1, were brought to her home in Ashley on Friday night last. Mrs. Gains had been taken to the hospital to have an operation performed for cancer. The funeral was held in the M. E. Church in Ashley at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, and was conducted by Rev. John E. Morris. The interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mary Ann Christina Carson was born in Todd County, Kentucky, October 10, 1852. She departed this life at the St. Louis Baptist Hospital May 1, 1914, at the age of 61 years, 6 months and 21 days. At about the age of 18, or earlier, her parents moved to Illinois and settled in Washington County, near Ashley, and later moved into town. She was married to Robert C. Gains on the 1st day of October, 1879. To this union were born six children. A twin son and a daughter died in infancy, leaving four children as follows; Chester R., pastor of the Christian Church at Colfax, Ill., Mrs. John Krusey, of Ashley, Frederick H., of Bingham, Utah and Lora Ann, at home. All are present and have been with her during her recent illness but one, who could not receive word in time to come. These four children and a bereaved husband, with many friends in the community where she lived so long, deeply mourn her departure. She united with Christ in Christian baptism in girlhood and has always remained firm in the faith, though always unostentatious. ***************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
