R. Gaines Eloped From St. Louis With Miss Sallie Byrnes and Was Married at Ashley, Ill. Miss Sallie Byrnes, daughter of Police Sergeant George W. Byrnes of 3537 Illinois Avenue, eloped with C. R. Gaines, a young jeweler employed by F. U. Huginin, Sunday, and were married at Ashley, Ill., by Justice Moninger. That particular place was selected for the wedding because it is the home of the groom's parents. The young pople have known each other a long time. While calling on Miss Byrnes Saturday night, Gaines planned the elopement. They left for Ashley Sunday morning. Arriving there, they secured the consent of Gaines Sr., and then drove to Nashville, the county seat, for a license. Mrs. Gaines did not break the news to mother or father on her return, both she and her young husband going to their respective homes. COULDN'T WAIT FOR THE DAY With all preparations made for a swell wedding in October, C. R. Gaines, a jeweler, and Miss Sallie Byrnes, daughter of Police Sergeant George W. Byrnes, 3537 Illinois Avenue, could not wait until the appointed day they eloped to Ashley, Ill., Sunday where they were married. The parents of the bride were ignorant of the elopement and marriage until informed late last evening. The parents of the bride have forgiven the couple, as no opposition was made to the marriage. ***************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
