Rogers, who lives on West Keechi, nine miles west of south from Jacksboro, (Texas). His father is a practicing physician residing in Fairfield, Illinois. His father was at one time in good circumstances and engaged in business in St. Louis, but losing most of his property, he returned to Fairfield where Robert was born, and resumed his profession. It seems the young man was of proud but despondent disposition. He wrote the following note to his uncle which was found on the table: Marion - please send Pa's letter to him and you can have everything in my trunk and valise unless pa and the folks want them. The letter to his father was sealed, but by advice of neighbors was opened - Dear Father- I hate to give you any more sorrow but I think this is the best I can do. Owing the failing of which you know I do not expect to ever be anybody anymore and my head aches every day and I think I can find no more happiness in this world, so I have determined to leave it. Pa, respect the words of a dying man. I think you are fast losings the love of May and Belle by crossness and fault finding. I think you did everything what you thought for the best, but I seemed destined to trouble always. I have no fear of another world and think I have a perfect right to leave this without crime. Love to all, Robert Rogers. He had tied a string to the trigger of the gun but could not pull it, so he used a stick with which to fire the gun, the muzzle of which he placed close to his head just back of the right ear, the ball coming out to the rear of the left ear. Undoubtedly his death was instantaneous. The suicidist (sic) was buried at Spring Dale.
