Carmi Girl Awarded Teacher's Scholarship. Margie Gibbs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royal Gibbs 615 Crebbs Ave., Carmi, has received a four years teachers scholarship at Southern Illinois University, it was announced from the office of Vernon L. Nickell, state superintendent of public instruction. Each year, Illinois High Schools are awarded a certain number of Teacher's scholarships to be given to those students in the upper one-third of their class, scholastically who desire to take up teaching as profession. This past year, the Carmi township High School was granted four such scholarships and six students expressed desire for the awards. Miss Gibbs was the first to be selected. She rated ninth among the 107 graduates this year. Very active, while a student at the Carmi Township High School, Miss Gibbs was a member of many clubs and school functions. She was queen of the Sweetheart Dance of her junior year. She also served as secretary treasurer of both the Camera Club and Spanish Club.
