Obituary of Elder Thomas E. Jones - White County, Illinois Service Held Monday For Elder Jones A labor of love for his fellow men in bringing the message of Christianity to all people came to an abrupt end Saturday evening when Elder Thomas E. Jones died suddenly at his home in Norris city. This esteemed and truly wonderful man who brought the word of God to many churches in White co. over the years, who shared the joys of is neighbors at weddings, christenings, and professions of faith, who keenly felt the sorrows of many when officiating at funerals, had a very full life, and his death brought sadness to old and young alike. Although he had been in failing health, his condition was not considered critical in spite of his 82 years, until 10:30 the evening he was stricken Elder Jones was born in White Co. on November 12 1872, the son of William and Martha Beard (should be Baird) Jones. Early in life he manifested an avid religion and felt the call to preach. He was affiliated with the Primitive Baptist faith and had charges in this and adjoining communities at different times. He was a man of industry and ability and followed the vocation of farming along with his pulpit activities. Three years ago he retired and moved to Norris City to make his future home after living on a farm near Emma for twenty years. He was a member of the Little Zion Primitive Baptist Church and served there as deacon over the years. He was a man on congenial manner and will be greatly missed. Funeral Tuesday For Elder Jones Funeral services for Elder Thomas E. Jones, 82, were held Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 at the Centerville Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Elijah T. Doty and Elder E. L. Curneal officiating. The pall bearers were Alva Barbre, George Smith, Harry Barbre, Jim Jones, Vernon Jones, and Alva Carr. Flower bearers were Mildred Barbre, Lena Jones, Grace Jones, Mary Jones, Veda Barbre, Martha Hargrave, Mae Boyd, Daisy Thomas,, Emma Carr, Sophia Stanley, Stella Vaupel and Cora Lee Vaupel.
