In the Name of God, Amen, I Mary M. STOKES of the Town of Indian Creek in the County of White and State of Illinois of the age of sixty-eight years and being of sound mind and memory do hereby make, publish and declare this my Last Will and Testament, in manner following, that is to say: First – It is my will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be fully paid; Second – I give and bequeath to my daughter Mertice MORELAND the Sum of One thousand Dollars as a special bequest for her care and attention to me in the later years of my life to be paid to her by my Executor out of my Estate before any other distribution is made except as hereinafter provided. Third: I give and bequeath to my daughter Laura HUFFAKER the sum of twenty five dollars this being all that I want or intend that she shall have out of my Estate either real or personal on account of her treatment of me and the other members of the family such amount to be paid to her by my executor after payment is made to my daughter Mertice MORELAND XXX amount above bequeathed to her. Fourth: It is my will that my husband, William H. STOKES shall have one third of my entire estate, both Real and Personal of every character after the payment of my just debts and before the payment of either of the above Bequests such Bequests shall be paid out of the remaining two thirds of my estate. Fifth: I give and bequeath to my daughters, Eliza PYLE, Mary MORELAND, Annie McGUIRE, Ella MORELAND, and Mertice MORELAND and my sons William F. STOKES, and John C. STOKES all of the resh. residue and remainder of my Estate of every kind and character equally share and share alike. Such division and distribution to be made by my Executor after my said husband have received his share as above provided and after the payment of the above bequests to my said daughters Mertice MORELAND and Laura HUFFAKER. Lastly – I hereby nominate and appoint William H. STOKES my husband, to be the Executor without bond being required of him of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the First day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and Ninety five. Mary M.
