His parents were Luther and Eunice (Cornish) Bush, natives respectively of Connecticut and New York. His father, a mason by occupation, came to Bureau Co., Ill., in 1836, and in 1839 to Sterling. He died in October, 1870, and Mrs. Bush is still living, with her son, the subject of this sketch. The latter, after receiving a common-school education and attaining legal age, left home and commenced working at the business of an artist. About nine years afterward he went to Iowa and took up a homestead of 80 acres, and also bought 80 acres, on which he lived and labored for ten years. He then moved back to Sterling, renting his farms in Iowa, and engaging in the real-estate business. Mr. Bush is a good business man; in political matters he votes for the "best man," and he is a member of the I. O. O. F. March 17, 1860, he married Catherine Wexler, a native of Germany, and they have three children,—Laura, Bertha E. and Eva J.
