Earley, a son of Rev. A. M. and Ruth B. Earley, was born in Prophetstown, this county, Sept. 28, 1859. He is a manufacturer of and dealer in harness, carriages, saddlery goods, collars, whips, fly-nets, buggy cushions, etc., in Erie. At the age of 14 he commenced to learn the trade of harness-maker; when 18 years of age he entered into business for himself in Port Byron, Rock Island County. In 1879 he removed to Erie and has continued in business in that place until the present time. By strict attention to business, honest dealing and turning out good work, he has built up a fine trade. He carries a stock of from $2,500 to $3,000, and employs one assistant. Mr. Earley was united in marriage to Miss Belle M. Berry, Sept. 26, 1882, at Erie. She is a daughter of John R. and Elizabeth M. Berry, and was born in Portland Township, this county, Sept. 24,1862. Mrs. Earley was educated in a convent, entering the Immaculate Conception Academy at Davenport, Iowa, when 13. At the age of ten years she commenced the study of music, which she continued, together with her other studies. When 18 years of age she finished in the other branches, and then devoted her time entirely to music. In 1880 she went to Chicago and entered the Chicago Musical College, and in 1882 finished her musical education, under the instruction of Dr. F. Ziegfeld, President of the College. Mr. and Mrs. Earley have one child— Alfred Berry, born Aug. 7, 1884.
