Loomis is a farmer on section 34, Hopkins Township. He is the son of Washington and Marcia G. (Burdick) Loomis, of whom a succinct personal narration is given on another page. He was born March 24, 1861, in Hopkins Township. He obtained as good a common-school education as the public schools afforded, which he attended until he was 16 years of age. He then went to Valparaiso, Ind., where he attended the Normal School six months. Later he entered the Iowa Business College at Cedar Rapids, where he was graduated in February, 1878. He is engaged in farming on the homestead of his father, of which he is the owner. In political preference he is a Republican. Mr. Loomis was married Feb. 22, 1881, in Sterling, to Lydia, daughter of Henry S. and Elizabeth (Eshleman) Williams. Her parents are natives of Lancaster Co., Pa., and she is one of seven children, born in the following order: Benjamin F., Albert A., Jacob E., Lydia, Henry E., Ulysses G. and Minnie E. Mrs. Loomis was born March 3, 1864, in Sterling. She is the mother of two children, William W. and Charles E.
