His parents were born in Pennsylvania, and they had 10 children, who were born in the order in which their names are given, as follows: Elias, Elizabeth, Jacob, Moses, Henry, John, Anna, Levi, Mary and Susan. Levi was born Jan. 23, 1837, in Lebanon Co., Pa., and he came to Whiteside County in 1855, first buying a farm in Jordan Township. He took possession of his property, and resided thereon until 1868, when he bought 140 acres in Sterling Township. He has pushed his business operations with profitable results, and he is now the owner of 262 acres of valuable land in Whiteside County, 198 in Lee Co., Ill., and 540 in Marion Co., Kan., which is mostly under tillage. The proprietor has erected excellent buildings, which add materially to the general appearance of the place. Politically Mr. Snavely is identified with the Republican party, and has been active in the well-being and progress of the schools of the township. He was united in marriage Jan. 6, 1860, in Sterling Township, to Anna, daughter of Henry S. and Fanny (Stauffer) Landis. (See sketch of H. S. Landis.) They have 10 children, as follows: Emma J., Willliam, Francis, Alice, Anna, Henry, Jacob, Ervin, John and Mabel. William and Francis are deceased.
