Adams, editor and publisher of the Peotone Vedette, was born in Peotone township, Will county, in 1866. His father, John Adams, is a native of the north of Ireland, and is now living retired from business in Peotone, at the age of seventy-one years. He came to the United States in 1865, making his way direct to Illinois, and he purchased a farm in Peotone township, Will county, where he was extensively engaged in feeding stock. He prospered in his undertakings and with an excellent competence, acquired through his earnings, he retired from active pursuits in 1893 and is now enjoying a well-earned rest. He holds membership in the Methodist church and has lived a life of uprightness and honor. His political support has been given to the republican party since he became a naturalized American citizen, and while he has kept well informed on the questions of the day, he has never sought or desired office. He married Anne Crawford, who was born in the north of Ireland, and died in 1893, at the age of sixty-two years. She was a daughter of John Crawford and a sister of the Crawford brothers. James, John, Ralph and William, who were early settlers in Wilton and Peotone townships. Unto Mr. and Mrs. John Adams were born six children: John C., of this review; one who died in infancy; Arthur R., who is a practicing physician, a member of the firm of Jenkins & Adams, of Macomb, Illinois; George H., and Ralph C., both deceased, and Elizabeth, who is a teacher in the Chicago schools. John C. Adams was reared on his father's farm and attended the common schools, the schools of Peotone and the Northern Indiana University at Valparaiso. He was graduated in 1890 from that institution and was president of his class. He pursued a scientific course and after completing his education engaged in teaching, being principal of the schools of South Kaukauna, Wisconsin, for three years. In January, 1894, he returned to Peotone and established the Peotone Vedette, a six-column quarto weekly paper. It is republican in politics and has a splendid advertising patronage, while the subscription list is constantly growing. Mr. Adams is editor and proprietor and has made the Vedette an excellent country paper. On the 26th of August, 1891, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Adams and Miss Stella C. Chubb, a daughter of H. C. and Marie Chubb, of Boyd, Wisconsin. She was born in Vermont and accompanied her parents on their removal to Wisconsin, her father becoming a pioneer lumberman of Chippewa county, that state. Mr. and Mrs. Adams are the parents of two children, Myra A. and Edith E. Mrs. Adams belongs to the Presbyterian church. Mr. Adams is a charter member of Peotone lodge, No. 659, K. P., and has served as chancellor commander, and has also been representative to the grand lodge. He also belongs to Peotone lodge, No. 841, I. O. O. F. He was appointed postmaster of Peotone in 1905 and is now filling the office to the entire satisfaction of all concerned, being the first native son of the township to hold the position of postmaster.
