Attaway, residing in Jackson township, was born in the state of New York, January 28, 1847, and was the eldest of the seven children whose parents were Alfred and Eliza (Post) Lasher. The father was born in the Empire state, October 22, 1825, and on the 11th of December, 1845, was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Post, whose birth occurred in New York, July 8, 1822. They removed westward in 1846 making their way to Fayette, Iowa, on the second passenger train that ever crossed the Brooklyn bridge. Mr. Lasher remained in Iowa until 1852, when he returned to Illinois, settling at Freeport. He was a carpenter by trade and followed that pursuit throughout his entire business career. His wife died September 30, 1889, and during the last few years he has lived with a daughter in Kansas City. Six of his family are still living: Mrs. George Runpert, a resident of Chicago; Mrs. B. F. Hyde, also of Chicago; Mrs. Fred Runpert, of the same city; Mrs. William Hammer, who is living in Kansas City; and Mrs. Peter Attaway, of Jackson township. Annie G. Lasher spent her girlhood days in her parents' home and in early womanhood gave her hand in marriage to Edward W. Attaway, who was born in England June 1, 1846, and when five years of age was brought to America by his parents. He was the eldest of seven children born unto Samuel and Margaret (Relf) Attaway, two of whom are living: Peter, a resident of Jackson township; and Mrs. Thomas Price, who resides in Linden, Illinois. The mother is now deceased but the father still survives and resides with his daughter, Mrs. Price. Edward W. Attaway and Annie G. Lasher were married in Rock Island, Illinois, December 31, 1873. They took up their abode upon a small farm of forty acres in Troy township, Will county, Illinois, and Mr. Attaway there began farming. He lived there for more than thirteen years and in 1887 removed with his family to the present home in Jackson township on section 15, where he carried on general agricultural pursuits until his death, which occurred on the 13th of November, 1902. He worked persistently and energetically in developing and improving his farm and carried on the work along modern lines which made this an excellent farming property. Three children were born unto Mr. and Mrs. Attaway, of whom two are now living. Frederick C., born April 14, 1875, and following farming in Jackson township, married Miss Catherine Hammond and has one daughter, Leola. Warren H., born December 8, 1882, married Antoinette Reich and is living in Joliet. Laura M., born March 21, 1886, died August 12, 1897. Mrs. Attaway owns one hundred and sixty acres of fine, well improved land lying on section 14 and 15, Jackson township, that is under a high state of cultivation and everything about the place is in keeping with modern ideas of farming. Mrs. Attaway is an attendant on the services of the Methodist church and is an estimable lady, warmly esteemed by all who know her throughout the community.
