By subsequent purchase he became the owner of three hundred acres, which at his death,. February 6, 1889, became the property of his heirs. He was born in Hanover, Germany, January 9, 1836, a son of Frederick and Mary Behrens, whom he accompanied to America about 1850. Shortly afterward he settled with them in Crete Township. July 22, 1859, he married Sophia Ohlendorf, who was born in Hesse-Cassel, Germany, in 1839, a daughter of Henry and Sophia (Sene) Ohlendorf. She accompanied her parents to America when thirteen years of age and settled with them in Crete Township. After the death of her husband she assumed the management of the estate, which included, not only the property in Will County, but two farms in Woodford Township, Iroquois County. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Behrens comprised twelve children.
