His father, George B. Davis, a farmer by occupation, was born in the state of New York in 1821 and in 1837 came to the middle west, remaining a resident of Joliet to the time of his death, which occurred in 1901. His wife, who bore the maiden name of Olive Comstock, was born in Tompkins county, New York, in 1S24, was brought to Joliet in 1S36 and in 1842 gave her hand in marriage to Mr. Davis. She died in the year 1891. She was a daughter of Dr. Alexander M. G. Comstock, one of the pioneer physicians of Will county, who ably engaged in the practice of medicine in Joliet from 1836 until 1854. He served as a surgeon in the war of 1812 and was also an ordained minister of the Methodist church. In the family of George B. and Olive Davis were four children who are yet living, namely: George Henry, who is in charge of the store department of the Pullman Company at Pullman, Illinois; Sadie, residing in Joliet; Wilbur B., who resides on the old homestead at Channahon; and Oliver Comstock. In taking up the personal history of Dr. Davis we present to our readers the life record of one widely and favorably known in Will county, where the greater part of his life has been passed. He attended the common schools through successive grades and was a high-school student at Channahon, after which he matriculated in the Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois, where he spent the year 1875-6. He then took up his medical studies in the Chicago Homeopathic Medical College and also received three years practical training and experience in the prison hospital at Joliet, there remaining from 1878 until 1881, after which he continued his course in the Chicago Homeophatic College and entered upon the practice of his profession at Lockport, where he remained from 1882 until 1885. In that year he sought a broader field of labor and came to Joliet, where he has remained continuously since, and a growing patronage is indicative of the confidence reposed in his professional skill and ability. Dr. Davis was married in Joliet, on the 15th of March, 1882, to Miss Carrie L. Sandiford, a daughter of Roger Sandiford, of this city, whose parents were natives of England and in 1854 became residents of Joliet. The Doctor and his wife have two children: Olive Caroline, born June 11, 1887, and now a student in the Western College for Women at Oxford, Ohio; and Mildred Jane, who was born July 3, 1897, and is attending school in Joliet. Doctor and Mrs. Davis, during the years of their residence in this city, have gained a wide circle of friends and his professional prominence is acknowledged by the public and the members of the medical fraternity. He maintains in his practice a high standard of professional ethics and is a close and discriminating student of various publications bearing upon his chosen calling and which render the labors of the medical fraternity more effective.
