Leimbacher, superintendent of the Joliet Stove Works, is one of the native citizens of Joliet, who has attained prominence and success in business circles here, receiving merited promotion in recognition of his ability, close application and enterprise until he is today prominently associated with a leading industry. He was born April 13, 1875, of the marriage of Rudolph and Elizabeth (Schwizer) Leimbacher, natives of Switzerland. They came to Joliet about 1863 and lived here until their death, the father passing away in 1890 and the mother in 1891. For twenty-three years Rudolph Leimbacher was connected with the Joliet Manufacturing Company, and for ten years was engaged in the retail coal trade. His wife's people came to this country at an early day, and Mrs. Leimbacher had a brother, Jacob, who served as a soldier in the Civil war and was wounded in battle. The year 1848 witnessed the arrival of Jacob and Conrad Schwizer in Will county, and during the days of early mining excitement in California they made, their way to the Pacific coast. Subsequently both returned to Will county and engaged in business here. In the family of Rudolph and Elizabeth Leimbacher were nine children, of whom seven are yet living: Reuben A., who resides in Joliet; Leesa M., a resident of Los Angeles, California; Henry, also a resident of Joliet; Alfred, who makes his home in St. Cloud, Minnesota; Louis C, of Joliet; Charles B., of this review; and Ida B., of Los Angeles. Charles B. Leimbacher was educated in the public schools of Joliet, and in his early business life was for three years engaged in the coal trade with his father. He afterward became a clerk in the accountant's office of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railroad, where he remained for four years, and in the spring of 1897 he became connected with the Joliet Stove Works as shipping clerk. Here his ability and enterprise have found recognition in successive promotions until he is today superintendent of the factory, having been appointed on the 1st of January, 1902. In this position he has from three to four hundred men under his supervision and carefully controls their labors, being thoroughly conversant with the business in principle and detail, and recognizing the line of labor that each should perform in order to make his services of value to the company. On the 21st of June, 1904, Mr. Leimbacher was united in marriage to Miss Cora Pearl Smith, a daughter of James Smith, a well known contractor of Joliet. They have one son, Raymond C., born May 16, 1906. Mr. Leimbacher is a member of the Masonic fraternity, in which he has attained the Knight Templar degree. He entered business life in a very humble way but laudable ambition and unfaltering diligence have secured his advancement and he is now recognized as a prominent factor in industrial life in his native city.
