White, attorney at law of Joliet, was born in Naperville, Illinois, December 23, 1868, and is a son of Thomas and Kitty (Reeson) White, who were natives of Lincolnshire, England. They were married in the place of their nativity and in 1852 came to the new world, taking passage on a sailing vessel which was several weeks in completing the voyage. They landed at Castle Garden, New York city, and thence went to St. Catharines, Canada, but in 1852 became residents of Cleveland, Ohio, where Mr. White worked in a stone quarry. In 1853 they removed to Naperville, Illinois, where he rented a farm. Several other removals were made and eventually they located at Peotone, Will county, in 1863. Later, however, they returned to Naperville, residing there until February, 1869, when they again came to Will county, settling in Manhattan township, Mr. White purchasing the south half of section 36. He then engaged in farming upon that land until 1886, when he removed to Filley, Nebraska, where he resided until 1889. He then became a resident of Joliet, where he remained until his death, which occurred on the 26th of October, 1892. His wife survived him for almost nine years and passed away October 6, 1901. They had a family of six children, of whom three died in infancy, the others being John T.; Fannie, the wife of Frank E. Porter, of Joliet; and William, who is living in Lincoln, Nebraska. John T. White was reared under the parental roof and attended the country schools and also the schools in Joliet. Desiring to become a member of the bar he read law at home and after thorough mastery of many of the principles of jurisprudence was admitted to practice in 1895. He has since been an active member of the profession in this city and has built up a large clientele in a general practice. His devotion to his clients' interests is proverbial and with thoroughness and care he prepares his cases, so that he is well fitted to meet any emergency that may arise in the trial of a cause. On the l7th of September, 1902, Mr. White was married to Miss Grace A. Hill, a daughter of John W. Hill, and they have one child, Myrna. Politically Mr. White is a republican but without aspiration for office, as he prefers to concentrate his time and energies upon his professional duties, in the line of which he has won considerable distinction as an able and learned member of the Will county bar.
