Young, Jr., is superintendent of the rod mill, No. 3, for the Illinois Steel Company at Joliet and his connection with this business covers a period of twelve years, during which time he has made rapid and substantial advancement, being promoted from one position to another until he now occupies a place of prominence in the operation of this great industry. He was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and is a son of G. G. Young, a shoe merchant living at Braidwood, Illinois. His mother bore the maiden name of Annie Gold. George G. Young of this review was educated in the common schools and in the Putland Business College at Joliet. Entering the employ of the Illinois Steel Company, he worked in the billet mill for a year and a half, after which he was transferred to the spike mill. Later he secured a situation in No. 3 rod mill as assistant roller and five years ago he was assigned to his present position as superintendent of rod mill, No. 3. In this connection he is manufacturing spike rod and has about fifty men in his employ. Mr. Young has entire charge of the department and his long and practical experience well qualifies him for the duties that devolve upon him. In 1892, at Braidwood, Mr. Young was united in marriage to Miss Rosa Rogers, who was born in Wisconsin, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Rogers, who came to Will county in 1877. Her father is a miner and is active in political circles. Unto Mr. and Mrs. Young have been born two children: Avace and Annie, aged respectively thirteen and ten years. Mr. Young is a member of the Modern Woodmen camp, the Tribe of Ben Hur and the Masonic fraternity and in these connections is well known.
