It seems that a merchant of that place, one of its prominent citizens, a man possessing very agreeable traits of character, as well as a very interesting family, has been holding improper communication with a young lady, also of that place, for several years past. The lady has reached the age of 20, and is said to possess a desire for the society of the aforesaid merchant, which has become akin to deep-seated love. Recent developments arose from the interest taken by the gentleman's wife in the matter, who, anticipating their movements, caught her husband doing that which is not becoming a dutiful husband. It is reported the wife has succeeded in finding some fifty letters addressed to her husband, couched in the most affectionate terms, and written by the guilty young lady.
