Congressman C. A. Hill has settled down to his law business and takes his defeat philosophically and without complaint. Mr. and Mrs. H. N. March gave a reception Wednesday evening in honor of the Rev. and Mrs. C. A. Lippencott. Miss Jessie Stevens gave a pleasant reception to her friends at her home on Hobbs avenue Tuesday night. The members of Company B, Fourth I. N. G. will compete in drilling for a gold badge from Captain Fred A. Jackson. The new Irving Street M. E. Church was dedicated Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Ashley will give a reception to their friends at their home on Richards street Friday evening. Misses Mary and Louisa Klemma entertained a large progressive euchre party Thursday night. William Kearns and wife, of Iowa City, are among Joliet friends. Miss Belle Jones, of Mokena, is visiting Joliet friends. Mrs. McGreggor, of Chicago, is the guest of Mrs. F. L. Cogwin. Superintendent Pettigrew, of the Illinois Steel Company, has returned from Old Point Comfort well and hearty. Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Woods, of Chicago, are visiting their parents on Union street. Miss Nettie Colter, of Chicago, is visiting Joliet friends. Miss Fannie Kerchival has gone to California. Mrs. J. C. Merrill and sister are on a tour of the Eastern States. Major J. M. Thompson and wife are in Atlanta, Ga. Died - Katie Butler, aged 10 years; Mrs. Nora Shannon, aged 27 years; Mrs. Mary Hoffman, aged 93 years; Mrs. D. B. Gise, aged 54 years; Joseph Cpeneboge [sic], aged 3 years. Married - Oris S. Carman and Ella M. Ralph. Born - To Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Graham, a son; to Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Baldwin, a daughter.
