Joliet, Ill., Nov. 11.—Miss Akin, for four years librarian of the public library, has resigned, and will be succeeded by Miss Kate Nicholson. By the marriage of Miss Clare Beam to H. M. Brayton, last evening, the public schools of Joliet lost a teacher. This morning a Mr. McVeigh was arrested and brought before Justice Millspaugh for building a bonfire inside the corporate limits of Joliet, contrary to a certain ordinance. The fire was the cause of Saturday night's alarm. Mr. McVeigh was fined $30 and costs, but it is understood he will appeal. Master Herman Scehring was taken ill with a fever three days ago, and soon went to bed, but since that time, up to this morning, when he died, his body has been cold. The disease seems to puzzle the minds of our physicians, as nothing like it has been noticed by them previous to this case. He was 16 years of age, and a young man of great promise. His funeral takes place Thursday, and will be in charge of the Turn Verein, of which society he was a respected member.
